How MUSSA elections work

Official voting runs on the MUSSA Online Voting System. Polls are not always open — this guide walks you through the process so you can find your way the moment they are.

Between elections, this page is your home base

If polls have not started or have already closed, the voting booth will say so (scheduled start or “polls are closed”). Come back here anytime to refresh the steps. Results are announced by the Electoral Commission — voters do not see live tallies in the booth.

Before you vote

Do these before polls open so election day goes smoothly.

  1. Register correctly

Register with the association; keep your student number and email valid and matching the Electoral Commission voter register.

  2. Know your candidates

Assess your preferred candidates, then wait until the Electoral Commission has opened the polls.

  3. Vote early

Cast your ballot as soon as polls open so you are not locked out when time runs out.

Ready when the booth opens?

Use the official portal to enter the voting booth. Keep your student number and registered email handy.

Step-by-step on election day

Follow this path from the home page of the voting system to your receipt.

  1. Open the voting booth

On the election portal home page, choose Enter voting booth.

  2. Request a one-time code

Enter your Student Number and Email exactly as they appear on the register (email is not case-sensitive). Choose Send OTP. Check that inbox for a 6-digit code that expires in 10 minutes. You may request a code up to 3 times per hour; 5 wrong codes lock that attempt — request a new code.

  3. Fill the ballot

The ballot may show every position on one page or one position per page. Choose candidates as instructed (“select up to N” when more than one is allowed). Leave a position blank to abstain. Nothing is recorded until you confirm.

  4. Review your selections

Choose Review my selections. Check each position and photo/name (or “No selection” if you abstained). Use Change selections if you need to go back.

  5. Confirm and submit — once

Confirm and submit records your vote anonymously, marks you as having voted, emails your receipt, and logs you out. You cannot change a vote after this.

  6. Keep your receipt

You will see a receipt number in the form MUSSA-XXXX-XXXX, plus your choices (or Abstain). Print or save it if you wish — the same receipt is emailed. Officials can see that you voted, but cannot look up who you chose from the receipt code. Your ballot is secret.

What to prepare

A short checklist so election day is calm.

  • Student number & email Use the same pair the Electoral Commission put on the register.
  • Access to your inbox OTP and receipt both go to that email. Have it open before you start.
  • A quiet few minutes Review carefully — submission is final. Membership is separate from voting eligibility.
